![]() The novel began as a web novel serialization in "Let's Become a Novelist" on October 12, 2008. The Irregular at Magic High School is a Japanese light novel series written by Tsutomu Satou with illustration by Kana Ishida. What will happen to him, and how will he live his school life where he is one of the many reserves in the school looked down upon by the chosen magical students? Tatsuya Shiba is a reserve student without magic capability at First High School, a magic high school, along with his sister Miyuki, who happens to be the top student among the freshmen. Various countries in the world are locked in a race in nurturing "Magicians". It has become a technology of reality for nearly a century. Magic on the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Wiki."Magic" is a product of neither legends nor fairy tales.Eidos and Idea are both concepts originally from Greek philosophy. The region has been likened to a black box. A magician can use the region consciously, but all the processing of information that happens within when performing magic is inperceivable. Experiments to create an artifical magic-calculating region and transplant it into people who do not possess one have been performed with very limited success. Being born with a magic-calculating region appears to be a genetic trait. Without having this region, a person cannot perform magic. This is a mental region that constructs magic programs and exists within the magician's unconscious. The essential part of having the talent of magic is to have a magic-calculation region. To make the outputted psions have an effect, they need to be further refined into a magic program (or magic sequence). If just outputted as-is, the outputted psions willd dissipate without having an effect. These outputted psions can be used to interfere with the psions that make up eidos in order to alter eidos, but simply outputting psions will not perform magic. A magician can output psions of their own into the Idea. Altering the psions making up eidos is the basis of modern magic.Ī magician (in this series, a shortening of "magic technician") is the term for a person with the ability and skill to use magic at a practical level. ![]() The information in eidos are made up of psions. Psions are information particles that record awareness and thought results. Two types of massless particles belong to the demension of spirit phenomena, psions (thought particles) and pushions (spirit particles). When performing magic, magicians access this dimension to rewrite the eidos there by outputting magic programs into the dimension. This refers to the metaphysical dimension where individual eidos are recorded. ![]() Magic in its modern definition is the act of altering an event, object or phenomena by altering their infromation body, eidos, By altering the information in the eidos, it causes a change to whatever that eidos is defining in the universe.Īn important concept is the Idea, the information body dimension. Eidos (個別情報体, literally "individual information body") is the individual collections of metaphysical information that defines an individual object's or phenomena's current state of being/existence in the universe. Crippled by frame rate issues, it beggars belief that a title from 1999 could run this badly on modern hardware. It's a game that deserves better than The Radical Dreamers Edition, which, at least at launch, is a dreadfully poor remaster. Parts of Chrono Cross really haven't aged well, but it's still a charming, characterful JRPG that evokes feelings of the genre's golden age on PS1. It's a thoughtful extra, and you can check it out at any time through the remaster's main menu. This is a text-based title that was never released outside of Japan, and it sort of ties Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger together. Oh, and The Radical Dreamers Edition comes with - would you believe it - Radical Dreamers. A welcome option if you're only here for the nostalgia. You can also activate 'battle boost' at any time, which essentially makes your party invincible. There is an enjoyable level of strategy to Chrono Cross, but it's buried deeper than it needs to be - trapped behind repetitive design that grows tired long before the credits roll.įortunately, the remaster does come with the ability to speed the whole game up, which can be a godsend when you're having to grind through regular fights (even though it does nothing to alleviate the frame rate issues). Missing a normal attack purely by chance can set you back a turn or two - or three if you take a hit in between, forcing you to heal instead of dishing out all of the damage that you've been saving up for. But then your standard attacks have percent chances to hit, and using them drains your stamina, which is refilled to varying degrees as turns pass.īecause of the way in which the mechanics influence each other, battles can become tediously drawn out. Basically, you use standard attacks to build up energy, which can then be spent on unleashing elements. For what it's worth, we don't think combat is anywhere near as bad as some critics have made it out to be over the years, but it is a system that could lose one or two mechanics and arguably be better for it. It's similar to Final Fantasy VII's materia, in that party members can be equipped with magic spells and abilities of your choosing - except the elements menu is seriously awkward to navigate, and keeping track of equipped elements is a bit of a nightmare.Ĭhrono Cross loves its convoluted mechanics - a trait that's encapsulated by its divisive combat system. Now look, we didn't expect this remaster to reinvent Chrono Cross for a modern audience, but there's just no getting away from the fact that the game's a slog every now and then. Again, this was ambitious design in the 90s, but nothing's been done to bring it up to speed. Chrono Cross lacks the copious quality of life improvements that have transformed the genre over the last two decades - and it's something that's painfully obvious here in 2022. Keeping up with your current objectives during these sections can be difficult as you attempt to remember which characters you need to chat with and which places must be visited. Having said all that, proceedings can get a little confusing later on, when you're jumping between timelines in order to progress. Aside from a handful of filler episodes - for lack of a better description - the plot is well paced, and as is typical of PS1 JRPGs, the writing is sharp and straight to the point. It's an ambitious tale, dealing in alternate realities, and boasting a huge cast of mostly fun characters. ![]() It's a real shame that this kind of stuff wasn't touched up or fixed for the remaster.Ĭhrono Cross does tell a fairly interesting story, though. What's worse, in certain locations, we found that our movement bugged out completely - to the point where we couldn't even walk in straight lines. At times, lining your character up to interact with environmental details or talk to NPCs can be an exercise in frustration. Needless to say, the remaster's frame rate problems come dangerously close to outright wrecking the experience - although whole chunks of Chrono Cross haven't aged all that well anyway.Īs you'd probably expect of a PS1 RPG with fixed camera angles, the controls are rather wonky. Indeed, these performance dips can lead to noticeable input delay during combat, which is just beyond a joke when you consider how slow-paced the turn based system is to begin with. You can barely walk across the screen without the frame rate tanking to an embarrassing extent - and it gets even worse in battle. The whole thing's supposed to run at a locked 30 frames-per-second - why wouldn't it? - but the frames fluctuate between what feels like about 10 and 25fps constantly. That's right, Square Enix has somehow managed to destroy Chrono Cross' frame rate on modern hardware. ![]() ![]() Another approach for iOS Safari users is to use a content ad blocker on iPhone and iPad which will stop autoplaying media as well as advertisements if you use an extra aggressive blocker, but if you go that route then please remember to whitelist sites that you like and want to support, like ours. It’s worth remembering that you can also disable autoplay in Safari on Mac or stop autoplay video in earlier Safari builds on the Mac if you’re a Safari user as well.Īutoplay video and audio is often maligned and rarely appreciated, we have covered this topic many times for many different apps, including how to stop autoplaying music over car Bluetooth from an iPhone, stop autoplay in the App Store, Facebook, Twitter, and more. ![]() ![]() This obviously applies to only the Chrome web browser, though not just on the Mac or Windows PC, but on all Chrome platforms.
